Coincidence CH 1

I reached out for you, you pulled away.
I tried to hold you, you escaped my arms.
I wanted to love you, you taught me to hate.

     Lyssa stared blankly out the window. It had been one year exactly, 365 days, since Kyle had walked into her life. It had started so simply, so much that she could barely believe it even though it had happened to her...

     She wandered through the courtyard of her college, admiring the ivy hugging the buildings in passing, staring at everything around her with the goal of looking for nothing at all. She was familiar with the campus, as it was her second year there.
     And then she walked right into him.

     "I'm sorry," he apologized immediately. "I wasn't looking where I was going."
     "No, it was my fault, I ran into you," she replied hastily.
     "Let's just say it was both of our faults and be done?" he proposed with a grin.
     She smiled. "All right."
     "Well, since I've already made a spectacular first impression, could you help me? I'm on my way to the Science Building, but I think I'm lost..." he said, waving a map around pathetically.
     She took it from him, ignoring how their fingers brushed ever so slightly, and tugged a pen out from her pocket. "You're in the Literature section right now, so all you need to do is..." She easily drew out a path to where he needed to go.
     He flashed her a thankful smile. "Thanks, I thought I'd be late."
     "Late?"
     "I'm from another college, I'm just staying for a few months to take a special course," he explained. He glanced at his watch and blanched. "I've got to go, see you around. Thanks again!"
     She waved as he ran off.

     And that was it.
     Later, she regretted not paying much attention--to his appearance, clothes, manner, everything. And after that, she wished she didn't regret.
